Cranbrook engaged us to shape the operational brief for the new Dining Commons, a shared space for students and staff at the heart of the redeveloped senior campus. Architectus describe the communal dining areas as the new centre of gravity for the development, drawing students into the heart of the building, and our role was to make sure those spaces work just as well operationally as they do architecturally.

We began with an audit of the school's current hospitality and catering function, mapping how food and service move across the campus day to day. From there we prepared an operational brief and design response to support the smooth running of hospitality across the school, including the more complex demands of weekend catering for visitors and sport.

We extended the work to master planning and back of house servicing for the tuck shop and the Hive, the school's café. We set out how each space is supplied, serviced and operated so the front of house experience holds up under load and the back of house keeps pace behind it. The result is a campus food offer that supports daily school life and the wider community that gathers at Cranbrook through the week and on weekends.
